3 December 1997, Paradise Valley & Kihikihi Speedway
NEWSLETTER
Issue Number: 5
Well,
Last weekend saw the NLW Racing Team on the road to Paradise Valley Raceway, Rotorua on Saturday night and Kihikihi Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
Arrived at the track on Saturday afternoon, along with 15 other cars, to find the meeting had been cancelled earlier in the afternoon. Obviously there were some very angry drivers, mainly due to the lack of organisation and communication from the Rotorua Officials, who were very noticeable by their 'absence'. The evening turned out fine and the track surface would have been excellent, judging by it's condition at 5pm, when we first arrived.
Needless to say, we drove to Kihikihi on Sunday morning with serious hangovers!!!!
Light drizzle attempted to put a 'dampener' on the days racing, but the Track Officials, unlike Rotorua, did an excellent job of ensuring racing continued. I missed the first race due to a minor fuel pump problem. Didn't go out in the second due to the track conditions and only lasted 3/4's of a lap in the third race due to two other drivers having a 'tangle' in front of me, leaving me with no where to go but straight into them. (In 4th place at the time, car going well!!)
Result: Bonnet disintegrated, tyre blown and a very angry & frustrated driver!!!! It doesn't look like this will be my year, roll on 1998!!!!
Next meeting at Huntly is this Saturday, 6th December. I will probably not be racing again until January, unless a new bonnet magically appears before Saturday (fingers crossed), but I'll still be at the track.
Thank you all, once again, for your support.
Cheers
Nigel Wilton
